The upcycling process

Currently, Spanish Fisherman bring back to shore plastic, which is sorted and pelletised and then upcycled into yarn for weaving into textile. We intend to bring this fishing collection to the UK in due course.
The upcycled textile is then sent to Upcycled Plastics in the United Kingdom to be manufactured into products. Research informs us that with respect to plastic that can be used to textile manufacture, there should be no need to make any new plastic for the next 40 years, with an exponential benefit to climate change as result of using our textiles.
THE UPCYCLING FIRST STAGE

Collection and sorting

Waste is gathered and collected by truck and delivered to the processing site. There are 117 types of plastic which break down into 7 polymer groups and the plastic is then sorted into 7 collection bins, depending on their type.
THE SECOND STAGE

Washing

The plastic waste is transported on conveyor and then washed. Then washed a second time with detergent. Finally a third wash is applied to remove any remaining caustics. If PET recycled is to be utilised for fibre then bottles and packaging recycled products require proper washing (3 washes) and cleaning and drying to determine the final quality of the pellets extruded.
THE THIRD STAGE

Flaking

Plastic waste is first dried to remove moisture, then chipped into small flakes, crucial for recycling. These flakes are used to make recycled products or processed into pellets for new items, enabling the transformation of waste into sustainable materials.
THE FOURTH STAGE

Extrusion into pellets

The plastic waste is transported on convreyor and then washed. Then washed a second time with detergent. Finally a third wash is applied to remove any remaining caustics.
